The Roman Legionary Method

Updated: 1 day ago
This training plan is inspired by the physical demands placed on the Roman legionary. A legionary needed more than impressive strength, he needed the endurance to march for miles under load, the strength to carry equipment and supplies, and the resilience to perform demanding physical tasks repeatedly without giving out. This program reflects those principles through progressive ruck marching, farmer’s carries, full-body resistance training, rowing, core work, and weapon-inspired movements. The goal is not simply to build muscle or improve fitness in isolation, but to develop a body that is strong, enduring, resilient, and capable under load, the qualities that made the Roman legionary such a formidable warrior.
It should be noted, for greater results add other fitness throughout your day, as time permits. A legionary conducted hard physical labor throughout their day. This fitness plan is light compared to the demands placed upon these soldiers.
